Senior nutrition menu
The nutrition program for persons age 60 and over is funded by the county Office for the Aging, state and federal grants, and contributions from participants. Meals are served Monday through Friday at the Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens Civic Center and the South Rome Senior Citizens Center, both in Rome; United Methodist Church, Vernon; United Methodist Church, Boonville, Noyes Manor Apartments, Sherrill; and Town Hall in Forestport.
It is essential to the success of the program that those who can afford to contribute do so. However, no one can be turned away because they do not contribute. Reservations must be made at least one day in advance.
Each diner receives an envelope into which a suggested voluntary contribution may be placed to pay for the meal. A donation of $2.25 is suggested. Those under age 60 must pay $6.40.
The menu for July 30- Aug. 3:
Monday — Sweet & sour meatballs, rice, broccoli with red peppers, whole wheat bread, and a cookie.
Tuesday — Roast turkey with gravy, sweet potatoes, mixed vegetables, multi-grain bread, and lemon mousse.
Wednesday — Chicken breast with gravy, mashed potatoes, sunshine carrots, whole wheat bread, and pears.
Thursday — Baked ziti w/ sausage, green beans w/ red peppers, garlic bread, and fresh fruit.
Friday — Oven brown fish, au gratin potatoes, stewed tomatoes, rye bread, and strawberry shortcake.
Diet substitutes are available with some meals, upon request.
