Moran wins to force tiebreaker

Moran Sylvan Beach Post claimed a 14-5 road victory over Ilion Post on Thursday night to clinch a tie for the eighth and final spot in the upcoming District V American League Baseball Tournament.

Moran Sylvan Beach finished with an 8-7 league record and will host Clonan Wicks-Staley Post (8-7) of Chadwicks on Sunday at the Camden Yards Baseball Fields scheduled at 6 o’clock for a one-game play-in game, and the winner will face top-seeded Whitestown Post (15-0) in the opening round District V playoffs.

The postseason tourney is set to begin on Monday.

Against Ilion, Cody Sullivan turned in a complete game effort on the pitcher’s mound with 10 strikeouts, two walks allowed, three hits and two earned runs garnered to improve to 3-2 this summer. He also collected three hits and two RBIs at the dish.

Austin Littler and Dylan VanDresar each drove in three RBIs apiece, while VanDresar and Parker Smith had doubles to lead the Moran Sylvan Beach bats.

Ilion ended its season at 6-9 in league play.

Parkhurst ends season

In other District V action, Parkhurst Post of Oriskany ended its season with a 6-4 setback against Fort Schuyler Post of New York Mills at DeLutis Field.

Parkhurst ended its campaign with a 5-10 league mark.

Keith Lubey picked up the win on the hill after four innings of work, while Justin Stevener had a triple and two RBIs for Fort Schuyler, which will await its fate in the District V Tournament after they wrapped up their regular season 11-4 in the league standings.
