William P. Pollard, 81, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2012, at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 12, 1930, in Ogdensburg, NY, the son of John and Esther Lavere Pollard. On August 7, 1950, Bill was united in marriage to Rosemary Kelley in St. Mary’s Church in Ogdensburg.
He was employed by Griffiss Air Force Base for several years, retiring in 1992. Prior to working at Griffiss Air Force Base, he was employed by A and P for thirty-seven years.
Bill proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marines from 1952 to 1954.
He was a member of the Faith Communities of St. Leo’s and St. Ann’s in Holland Patent. He was a member of the Roberts Post American Legion in Holland Patent and the Marine Corps League.
Surviving besides his loving wife of sixty-one years, Rosemary; are two daugthers and sons-in-law, Valerie and Jeffrey Zehr, of Martinsburg, and Kimberly and Dennis Kryczkowski, of Holland Patent; four grandchildren, Stephen, Jason, Jennifer, and Rebecca; five great-grandchildren; and a great great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by a son, William Pollard, Jr., and a brother, Ronald Pollard.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2012, at St. Leo’s and St. Ann’s Church in Holland Patent at 9:00 a.m. Private interment will take place in Glendale Cemetery in Martinsburg, NY. There are no calling hours.
In leiu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to the Marine Corps League. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
