Camden grad receives academic honor
ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis and Elkins College women’s tennis team member and Camden graduate Rebecca Price has been named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll by the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the 2011-2012 academic year.
The Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes junior and senior student-athletes who have obtained a 3.3 cumulative GPA at the end of the term in which their sport concluded.
Price, an accounting and finance major, is the daughter of Ronald and Kristen Price.
High school football officials sought
The Mohawk Valley Chapter of Certified Football Officials is seeking individuals 18 and older who are interested in becoming high school football officials.
The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 24, at 6:30 p.m. at New York Mills High School located on Burrstone Road. Interested candidates can contact Stan Evans at 336-2950 or 335-5252.
Turning Stone names assistant golf pro
VERONA — The Turning Stone Resort Casino has announced that former LPGA Tour player Michelle Murphy has been named assistant golf professional.
Murphy competed on the LPGA Tour in 1998, 2000, and 2001 and has completed all levels of PGA certification. Along with her LPGA Tour experience, Murphy claimed two victories on the LPGA Futures Tour and three wins on the Players West Tour. She also competed in nine U.S. Women’s Open Championships.
Murphy comes to Turning Stone after working as an assistant professional at Quintero Golf and Country Club in Peoria, Ariz. and Waverley Country Club in Portland, Ore., as well as serving seven years as head women’s golf coach at the University of Portland, Ore.
Smith Post to hold bottle and can drive
The Smith Post American Legion baseball team will be holding a bottle and can drive on Saturday, July 21, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Players will be coming around to houses in neighborhoods, and persons can also drop off their bottles and cans at St. Paul’s Church on Cypress Street. The pick-up will be held in the back corner of the parking lot near the shed. Persons can also call 292-0967 to arrange to have bottles and cans picked up.
