Out of town bowlers have highest averages

Larry Porter of Whitesboro averaged 237 for the Rome Bowling Association 2011-12 bowling season to claim the Rome men’s city bowling high average while competing in the Tuesday Night Classic League at King Pin Lanes.

Bobby Moro of Oneida finished in second with a 234 average, while Whitesboro native Merle Foster had the third highest average at 233. Both bowlers also competed in the Tuesday Night Classic League along with Porter.

Rome natives Rick Adams, James Grago III and Greg Puccio rounded out the top six after each posted 232 averages. Rome’s Craig Vogel tied for seventh with Canastota’s Eric Van Slyke with both scoring 231s.

Rome had an additional 11 bowlers inside the top 20, with Loreto Guiliano Jr. averaging 230, Steven Berthold and Kevin Carney each averaging 229, Joseph Grago and Jim Malone both rolling 226s, Busby Hawkins and Richard Nasci each scoring 225s; James Giordano, Travis Oliver and Gregory Young each tying with 224 scores, and John Crisan averaging 223. Camden’s Bronson Schalizki also averaged 224, and George Kelley of Utica finished with a 223.

Hall of Fame golf scramble July 21

The Rome Sports Hall of Fame and Museum Golf Scramble is scheduled to be held on Saturday, July 21 at the Rome Country Club.

The event is a four-person scramble. Interested parties can contact the Recreation Department during office hours at 339-7656 or Tom Barry at 339-2986.

The entry fee is $70 per golfer and includes, greens fees, cart, driving range, a steak dinner, and prizes. Check in for the event is 12:30 p.m. and there is a shotgun start at 1:30. Teams can be comprised of men, women or coed.
