Applications available for city golf tourney

Applications are available for the 49th annual Rome City Men’s Amateur Golf Championship set for Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 11-12, at Rome Country Club and McConnellsville Golf Club.

The championship is 36 holes of medal play with no cut and is open to any male golfer at least 18 years of age with amateur status and an official USGA handicap. Players under the age of 18 may submit an entry and a resume for consideration in the championship flight only.

There are no residency restrictions, and the field is limited to the first 144 entrants. Flights are: Championship, A, B, C and D flights, Senior A and B flights and Super Senior.

Applications are available at City Hall, Rome Country Club, McConnellsville Golf Club and other area courses. Applications are also available on the RCC website at: www.romecountryclub.com

The entry fee is $70 and includes greens fees, complimentary range balls at both RCC and McConnellsville Golf Club, prizes and championship dinner at McConnellsville.

Rome Rampage attends MidSummer Slam

CICERO — The Rome Rampage 16U girls fastpitch softball team went 1-1-2 over the weekend during the MidSummer Slam softball tournament.

Rome defeated BC Explosion 11-6, lost to the Renegades, 10-9, and tied the Hamburg Extreme and the Syracuse Sting by 1-1 and 0-0 scores.

Alexandra Kimmel and Christina Carissimo batted .625 each for the tournament and Carissimo added 5 RBIs. Mikenna Sochia held the team’s highest batting average with a .733 and added 4 RBIs, as Gabrielle Eggan also helped out the team batting .500.

The team will be in the Rome Girls Softball 16U Tournament at Kost Fields July 21-22.
