Woman, 69, accused of drunk driving

TOWN OF VERONA — A 69-year-old woman is accused of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol on the Thruway Saturday evening.

Syracuse-based state police said numerous other drivers had called 9-1-1 to report Linda K. Pier, 69, of Syracuse, driving erratically on the Thruway at around 7:30 p.m. Pier was stopped when she pulled into the Exit 33 interchange in Verona. Troopers said she registered a blood alcohol content of only 0.05 percent — below the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

However, troopers said Pier was also under the influence of drugs, along with the alcohol. Pier is charged with driving while impaired by drugs, and driving while ability impaired by a combination of drugs and alcohol, authorities stated. She is due in Town Court on July 24.
