Utica officer injured breaking up fight

A Utica police officer was injured and bitten on the finger while trying to restrain a man and two women at the Celtic Harp bar Thursday night.

Police said Carmen Zammiello, 23, of Woods Highway, Whitesboro, was in a fight at the Sunset Avenue bar at about 11 p.m. When Officer Charles Parkosewich responded and tried to break up the fight, police said Zammiello punched the officer in the face and then bit him on the finger.

The two women, Briana McIlroy, 21, of Plattsburgh in Clinton County, and Tara Lyne, 23, of New York City, also fought with the officer while he was trying to restrain Zammiello, authorities said.

Assisting officers detained McIlroy and Lyne, and a Taser was used to subdue Zammiello, authorities stated. All three were taken into custody and are scheduled to appear in City Court. Officer Parkosewich was treated for his injuries at a local hospital.

Zammiello is charged with felony second-degree assault, second-degree harassment, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, police said. Lyne is charged with second-degree harassment, disorderly conduct and second-degree obstruction. McIlroy is charged with second-degree harassment and second-degree obstruction, authorities stated.
