The Ava Dorfman Senior Center, 305 E. Locust St., has a wide variety of offerings with basic fitnes starting Wednesday and senior stretch yoga starting Friday, and signup also under way for two beginner line dance classes (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and for bocce leagues, a walking group and other activities.
For registration for any events call 337-8230. Health-screening and physician release forms are required for fitness classes.
Beginner Line Dance starts July 3 for a Tuesday group and July 5 or a Thursday group. The classes taught by Chris VonMatt, are $38 or $28 for Center Members or take both classes for $25 for each class. "Have fun while learning new steps, good exercise for the memory," center officials said. Both the eight-week sessions are from 1 to 2 p.m. Participation is welcome throughout program.
Zumba AM taught by Karen Spindler will begin Tuesday, July 3, at 10 a.m. It’s designed for the active older adult and Latin styles of music and dance are used. An eight-week session costs $40 or $32 for members.
Body Sculpting starts Monday, July 9, taught by Chris VonMatt, $16 for Wellness Members, $28 for Center Members, $38 for non-members. Use of dumbbells and exercise bands will strengthen and tone your muscles. Balance, flexibility, relaxation included. The eight-week session is held on Mondays from 1-2 p.m.
Stay Young, Strong Bones, taught by RSVP volunteer Dianne Leach, begins Wednesday, July 11, 12:30 1:30 p.m. The 12-week class, is a nationally recognized program to improve muscle strength and flexibility. Cost is $25 for members or $30 for the class including floor work, which is optional.
At least one more walker is needed for the Walking Group planned for Mondays at 9 a.m.
Tai Chi and Zumba Gold classes are taking a break for summer. You can still join other classes started in May or June.
