Smith gets back on track

UTICA — Smith Post got back to its winning ways as starter Jeff Cooke tossed a six-inning gem to hand the Rome club a 13-3 victory over hosting Adrean Post during a District V American Legion baseball game at Notre Dame High School on Friday night.

Cooke, who improved to 2-0 on the mound, struck out 12 and walked just one while allowing two earned runs and three hits and the Smith Post bats struck early an often as Rome bounced back from a 12-2 loss against Fort Schuyler on Wednesday.

Smith, 5-1 overall, was led at the dish by Ryan Reilley after he had three hits and two RBIs, and Derek Murphy and Andrew DeBlasiis finished with three RBIs apiece. DeBlasiis also had a double and a triple at the dish.

Caleb Blair added two RBIs for the Smith Post attack, while Cooke, Alex Rudiak, and Drew DeBlasiis all added an RBI apiece.

Smith hosts New Hartford Post on Monday at 6 p.m. at Rome Free Academy Stadium.
