Roberts Post gets edged by the defending state champs

UTICA — The Roberts Post American Legion baseball team fell victim to a 7-1 defeat from the hosting state champions Whitestown Post in District V action on Tuesday at SUNYIT.

Ryan Crego took the loss on the mound for Roberts, throwing four innings and giving up seven runs — four earned — on seven hits and three walks. Andy Hurteau hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to record the visitors’ lone score.

Connor Passalacqua led the Whitestown offense, that scored its seven runs in the game’s first three innings, as he hit 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBIs, and Mike Bunal scored twice and drove in two runs.

Bunal also recorded the winning decision on the mound, allowing the one run on four hits while striking out nine in the complete game effort as Whitestown moves to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the league.

Roberts falls to 1-4 in the league and will host Parkhurst Post tonight at 5:30 p.m.
