Crash leads to DUI, weapon and multiple traffic charges

ONEIDA — A teen-ager was charged with several traffic infractions and driving under the influence following a crash on Seneca Street where he fled the scene Sunday.

The 19-year-old was also found with a knife when taken into custody, Oneida Police said.

Scott J. Ruffrage, of North Broad Street, was northbound on Seneca when he skidded through the Stone Street intersection and jumped the north curb before damaging some bushes on a property. He fled the scene but was located by patrols shortly after, Chief David R. Meeker Sr. said. Ruffrage was also found in possession of a gravity knife, the chief said.

Ruffrage was charged with driving while intoxicated, speeding, running a stop sign, refusing to take a breath screening test, leaving the scene of a property-damage accident, uninspected motor vehicle and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned in City Court and sent to Madison County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond.
