Already among elite

Mariah Mays is certainly among the "Emerging Elite."

Her fine showing at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor Track and Field Meet last week earned the RFA freshman a fourth place in her division in the discus throw. In Greensboro, N.C., she competed in the "Emerging Elite" category and was the only freshman in that group, according to girls head coach Brett Couchman. She finished with a heave of 121 feet, 2 inches.

This excellent performance came off a win in the Federation Meet championship in the discus during the New York Public High School Athletic Association Championships at Cicero-North Syracuse.

She said her recent performances have been "unreal" but we’re sure that the track and field star has an even brighter future.

She noted the "amazing" support she has received.

Congratulations to Mays and all her fellow athletes, including RFA junior Dana Husband, who also competed at the nationals and came in 12th in the high jump. Both Mays and Husband were Section III champs in their respective events and well represented their school and city.
