The Rome Men’s Softball Association officially announced this week that it will host an all-star weekend complete with its own home run derby.

On Saturday, July 28, the league will play all-star games, and finish the night with a home run derby contest, with the winner receiving a cash prize. Twenty participants will take a swing at becoming the RMSA home run king. Sign-ups will start Thursday, June 21, at Haselton-Wright Park at 5:30 p.m. All-star games will be played with one team representing each night. Team captains will vote for players to make up the roster.

This past week’s games were preceded by Thursday night postponements because of heavy rains. Those games will be made up at a later date.

In the Sunday Night Community League, Don’s Auto remained the league’s only unbeaten team with a 17-1 victory over Boondock Saints. Don’s leadoff hitter, Joe Dimaggio, went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored. In another Sunday game, Waste Management beat Ramblin’ Again, 13-11.

In the Monday Night Burt Smith league, Performance Wire continued their winning ways with doubleheader wins versus Rome Pool & Spas and Brew Crew. Kris Wutsch put on a show with an 8-for-10, seven-run night. Performance would improve to 6-0 on the season with a 21-0 victory over Rome Pool & Spa and a 25-14 win against Brew Crew.

The Rome Men’s Softball Association will play 11 weeks across three nights with 33 teams, concluding the first weekend in August with a city-wide tournament.
