Simone drives in six runs for Adirondack during NYCBL win

UTICA — The University of West Alabama’s Alex Simone broke out with five hits and six RBIs to leap the Adirondack Trail Blazers to a 12-6 triumph over the Utica Brewers in New York Collegiate Baseball League action on Wednesday.

Simone went 5-for-6, homered and doubled at the dish while scoring three runs as Adirondack bounced back from a two-run deficit to tie it at 5-5 in the seventh inning and take the lead for good in the eighth off a five-run outburst.

Colton Campbell of Rogers State University also had three hits and an RBI, Chase Matheson of McHenry County College recorded two singles and scored twice, and Dezmon Nunn of Three Rivers Community College had two hits and scored three times.

Ian Tresser of Fairfield University was the winning pitcher in 1 2-3 inning of relief. Adirondack starter Sean Larson of SUNY Fredonia went 4 1-3 innings, allowed five runs off seven hits and struck out three.

Adirondack moves to 5-2 overall and will next visit Geneva on Friday at 7 p.m.
