Person of interest in arson remains hospitalized

The person of interest in the arson on Elmer Hill Road remains hospitalized in serious condition more than a week after the flames were doused.

No criminal charges have been filed against anyone.

Medical officials said Ronald Lamascolo, age 59, remains in serious condition this morning at University Hospital in Syracuse. Lamascolo’s condition has been serious since he was pulled from the burning residence at 8491 Elmer Hill Road on Monday afternoon, June 4.

Sheriff’s officials said Lamascolo was a "person of interest" after it was determined that the fire was intentionally set. However, due to his medical condition, investigators have yet to speak with Lamascolo at the hospital, officials said. They are waiting until his condition improves.

Lamascolo is a person of interest because the Elmer Hill Road home is the residence of his wife, with whom Lamascolo has had domestic problems in the past. The woman also telephoned 9-1-1 and said that Lamascolo was pouring gasoline around the residence prior to the fire. Authorities said responding law enforcers found Lamascolo near a side door and pulled him to safety before firefighters doused the blaze.
