Hamlin named luge Female Athlete of Year

LAKE PLACID — Remsen native Erin Hamlin received 2012 Female Athlete of the Year honors during the National Luge Committee of the United States’ annual meeting at the Olympic Training Center last weekend.

The two-time Olympian and 2009 World Champion Hamlin also won two-year terms as Members-at-Large on the National Luge Committee. Hamlin finished in sixth place in the final World Cup standings this season and also won the 2012 Norton National Championship.

Cadrette takes eight gold medals

Rome native Kermit Cadrette won 16 medals during 17 events, including eight gold medals, during the Empire State Senior Games last weekend in Cortland.

Cadrette also won seven silver medals and one bronze medal while competing in the 70-75 age division. He won gold medals in the 1,500-meter run, the 5-kilometer race walk, the 5K road race, the 1,500 walk, the long jump event, the high jump, the 55 dash, and in the hammer throw event.
