Human resources group to present Lynda Ford award
Michele LaPorte, facility labor relations manager at New York Power Authority, will receive the 2012 Lynda Ford Award at the next meeting of the Mohawk Valley Society for Human Resource Management Tuesday, June 19 at the Radisson Hotel, 200 Genesee St., Utica.
Registration and the breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m., with the program to follow at 8 a.m. MVSHRM, along with Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce, will present the award. The award is given in memory of Lynda Ford who died in January 2007. Ford served as president of MVSHRM for two years and was a long-time member of the organization. In addition to her dedicated service to MVSHRM and other volunteer organizations, she was president of the Ford Group. She was the author of "Transform Your Workplace" which was published by McGraw-Hill in English, Spanish and Chinese.
Keynote speaker will be Sonia Aranza, a nationally known speaker and president/CEO of Aranza Cross-Cultural Communications, which has presented and consulted such nationally recognized companies as IBM, Coca Cola and Johnson and Johnson. She is also speaking at this year’s SHRM National Conference in Atlanta, Ga. Aranza earned two masters degrees: an M.A. in Cross-Cultural Communication from the University of Hawaii and an M.A. in Public Communication from the American University in Washington, DC. She will present the program, "Self-Leadership: Aspire to Inspire."
