Variety includes fitness classes, community programs
The Ava Dorfman Senior Center, 305 E. Locust St., has a wide variety of offerings from belly dancing to composting to trips.
For registration for any events call 337-8230. Health-screening and physician release forms are required for fitness classes.
Signup is under way for:
Belly Dancing classes starting Thursday, June 21st from 5:30-6:30 p.m., for a 6 week session. It’s $60 or $48 for members. It’s for those who have never tried Belly Dance and for those who want a refresher course reviewing basic steps and drills. A 1-hour workshop including stretching, basic moves, lots of drills and intro to easy combinations. Increase mobility, flexibility and core strength.
Basic Fitness will start Wednesday, June 27, taught by Kathy Angleton, for $38 or $28 for Center Members. Take two classes for $50(Basic Fitness and Chair Pilates). This is an "All in One" fitness class which improves cardiovascular system, strength-training, toning, balance and flexibility using therapy bands. 8-week session, 2:45-3: 45 p.m. Participation is welcome throughout program.
Senior Stretch Yoga will start Friday, June 29, taught by Sarah Kaczor of "Just Breath Yoga Studio" It’s $32 or $26 for members. Participants can learn to improve breathing, restore good posture, stretch and move joints and muscles. 4 week class held on Fridays from 11-11:50 a.m. Participation is welcome throughout program.
The Walking Group (Mondays at 9 a.m.) needs at least one more member to start.
Bocce Leagues signup is under way. Lessons will also be offered. .

A representative from Beacon Bank will be at the center at 1 p.m. Thursday.
A computer class will be held on Tuesday, June 19th at 2 p.m.
Signup continues for a Dinner Dance — a Country Line Dance event — Tuesday, June 19, from 4:307:30 p.m. Registration is due in the center office by Thursday for the $10 public dance.
Breakfast is served at the Center on Wednesday, June 20, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. with no need to be a member to attend. The menu includes eggs, ham or bacon and home fries for $3.50 add waffles to the previous list of menu items for a total of $5. Price includes juice, coffee or tea. Reservations are required by Monday.
Lunch & Learn: Bob Gray and Pat Haggerty of the Rome Garden Club will present on composting and container gardening, on Thursday, June 21 at 1 p.m. Lunch will include: Cold salad plate w/roll, dessert, coffee or tea for $4.50 or $4 for Center members.
A public card party will be held on Sunday, June 24 from 1-4 p.m. for $10 per person. There’s a lunch with sandwiches, cold salads, dessert, coffee or tea. Tickets must be purchased by June 20.
The Arts & Crafts Program will meeting Thursdays at 1 p.m. in June. The Arts & Crafts room will be open daily for independent artistry from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
The center has an instructor and is in need some interested students. The class will be $5 per person per class and will be held Tuesday mornings. Call the Center if you are interested.
There are a few seats left for a bus trip on Wednesday, Sept. 5 to the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Auburn to see "Cabaret." Call Center if interested.
A list is being started for anyone interested in going on a one-day bus trip to Niagara Falls in July or August. Points of interest are the Niagara Aquarium, Maid of the Mist boat tour, Cave of the Winds tour or the Discovery Center. Anyone interested is asked to call the center to sign up.
There’s also a list for anyone interested in going on a one-day bus trip to Alexandria Bay and a boat trip to the Islands to tour. This trip would be in August. Anyone interested is asked to call the center to sign up.
Those interested in going to the West Side Story in the Stanley Theater, Nov. 7 or 8 via bus or limo are also asked to call the center to sign up.
