Teen struck by vehicle on Perimeter Road

An 18-year-old was hospitalized after he was struck by a car on Perimeter Road Sunday evening while standing near the rest of his family.

Connor G. Passalacqua suffered a bruise on his right side, police said. The driver was ticketed for failure to exercise due care.

Police said Passalacqua, 18, of 8720 Aitken Ave., Whitesboro, was standing on the driver’s side of another vehicle driven by J.A. Passalacqua, 56, also of Whitesboro. He was then struck by the oncoming car at 6:17 p.m. near Delutis Field. Police said driver Brent M. Sloma, 18, of 37 Pinecrest Road, Whitesboro, was southbound on Perimeter Road when he leaned over to adjust his passenger-side visor.

Police said Sloma’s 2003 Kia sedan struck Connor Passalacqua on his right side, knocking him into the driver’s side mirror of the vehicle he’d been standing next to. Police said Passalacqua then went up and over the hood of the same vehicle, landing on the ground on the passenger side.

Passalacqua was treated for a large bruise at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica.

Police said Sloma’s Kia continued forward, crashing into the rear of a 2012 Kia sedan, which was also stopped on the side of Perimeter Road. That vehicle was unoccupied. Sloma was ticketed for failure to exercise due care for the pedestrian.
