Quilts topic at Herkimer Home Sunday
HERKIMER — Kathy Stalic, Herkimer Home volunteer and quilting historian, presents the lecture, "Quilts of the Past and Present," at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Herkimer Home State Historic Site.
The free, public lecture will focus on the evolution of quilting in the region, from it’s beginning on the Colonial frontier to its advancements during the Industrial Revolution and beyond. It will explore how the political, social and economic changes surrounding the Mohawk Valley affected this specialized skill and advance it into a broader community.
A question-and-answer session regarding specific techniques and styles of quilts will follow the lecture. Stalic’s personal collection will also be on display for viewing. Stalic has taught quilting in the community for more than 20 years with Herkimer BOCES adult classes and at various local shops. She first was introduced to quilting as a youngster in Kansas.
The lecture is part of the Herkimer Home Education series. Call 823-0398 for information.
