Matthew Silver, of Rome Free Academy, recently earned his Eagle rank.

Silver, 17, son of David and Carol Silver, of Humaston Road, received his Boy Scout Eagle badge during a ceremony held on May 26 at the Delta United Methodist Church on Turin Road.

Silver is a member of the Revolutionary Council and Troop 50, which is chartered by the First United Methodist Church. Silver started as a Tiger Cub Scout in first grade at Denti Elementary School Pack 50. He earned his Arrow of Light in 2006 before joining Troop 50.

For his Eagle project he made two benches for the rest area on the Wood Creek Trail and cleared the view for the benches overlooking Wood Creek.

He also cleared the Blue & Wood Creek Trails of fallen trees, branches and brush. The benches were made in the spring of 2011 and placed at the trail with the help of Troop 50. The trails were cleared in August of 2011 with the help of Troop 50 and family.

Both trails are open to the public. The project totaled more than 81 hours.
