Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir Concert June 9

NEW HARTFORD — Saint David’s Society is sponsoring a concert by the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 9 in the First United Methodist Church, 105 Genesee St.

Tickets are $15 and may be obtained at the door or by calling 737-5840 or 725-3391.

The 45 voice choir has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City and throughout Canada, the United States and in Europe.

In addition to the Choir, the concert will feature soloist Danan Healy Tsan of Syracuse, a classically trained graduate of the Eastman School of Music who was recently awarded "Best Vocal Performance" by the Theatre Association of New York State.

The Choir draws on the Welsh tradition of singing hymns and songs born of the mountains and valleys of Wales, although its members represent many ethnic heritages. It also emphasizes in its ever increasing repertoire: spirituals; operatic arias; North American folk songs; as well as Broadway show tunes a perfect blend of traditional and contemporary music.

The Artistic Director and Principal Conductor is William Woloschuk. The Principal Accompanist and Associate Conductor is Christina Faye of Toronto. The Honorary Patron of the Choir is Bryn Terfel who "is recognized as the greatest Bass Baritone in the world," according to Saint David’s Society officials. Terfel, a native of Wales, is known for his service to opera but is equally comfortable singing Wagner and traditional Welsh songs.
