Clinton Comets to be honored
The 1967-68 Clinton Comets, owners of the best record in the history of professional hockey, will be honored and also be a part of a meet and greet session this weekend.
The Comets will be honored on Saturday by the Professional Hockey Alumni Association following the conclusion of the UPHAA charity golf tournament at the Barker Brook Golf Course in Oriskany Falls. The Comets, which compiled a 57-5-10 regular season record and went on to win the first of three consecutive Walker Cups as champions of the Eastern Hockey League, will receive championship rings from the UPHAA during a ceremony to be held at approximately 3 p.m. On Sunday, the Comets will then hold a fan meet and greet session from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Clinton Arena. Admission is free of charge.
The team will be represented by player-coach Pat Kelly, captain Jack Kane and more than a dozen other players including, Bill Bannerman, Borden Smith, Howie Dietrich, Dave Armstrong, Pete Prevost, Ian Anderson, Ed Babiuk, Rod Zane, and Pat Draper. There will also be representatives for deceased members Don Davidson, Bill Hein, and Len Speck at the ceremony.
Patriot’s Run/Walk June 16 at Griffiss Park
The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 944 is holding its inaugural 5-Kilometer Patriot’s Run/Walk on Saturday, June 16 starting at 9 a.m. at Griffiss Park.
Pre-registration is available for $20 until Saturday, June 9 and $25 afterwards. The registration can be mailed in at: P.O. Box 4444, Utica, N.Y. 13504 or by email at: applications@romanrunners.com. Registration will also be held on June 16 at the Wingate Hotel from 7-8:45 a.m. T-shirts will be given to the first 100 registered runners.
Field hockey officials needed
Section III is looking for field hockey officials in the Rome, Utica and surrounding areas for the 2012 fall season.
