Imprisonment, assault charged

WEST LEYDEN — A Lewis County man is accused of choking his girlfriend and giving her a black eye during a dispute at their residence Friday.

Sheriff’s deputies said Charles B. Sterling, of 781 Witzigman Road, punched his girlfriend in the face and choked her during an argument. Deputies said Sterling also damaged her cell phone and threw it out of her reach when she tried to call 9-1-1.

Sterling is charged with one count each of third and fourth-degree mischief, third-degree assault, second-degree imprisonment, and criminal strangulation, deputies stated. He was arraigned and sent to county jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or bond.
