Lady Redskins roll into semis
The Oriskany softball team is heading to the semifinals of the Section III Class D Tournament after coming out with a crushing 11-0 shutout win over visiting McGraw on Saturday afternoon.
Second-seeded Oriskany will next face No. 1 seed Hamilton on Wednesday in the semifinals at Kost Field starting at 5 p.m.
The Lady Redskins tacked on 10 hits in the rout and were led by Shannon VanShufflin as she batted 2-for-4 with two triples, four RBIs and scored two runs.
Jordan Sahl also hit 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice, while Alyssa Balfe added a double, four RBIs and three runs scored, Brandi Zizzi hit an RBI single, and Savannah Bixler was 2-for-4.
Meghan Carlo (13-3) picked up the win on the mound over McGraw starter Brittany Purcell, who took the loss.
Oriskany’s record moves to 17-4 on the season.
RFA blanked by C-NS
In other sectional softball playoff action, Rome Free Academy ended its season with a 6-0 loss to No. 1 seed Cicero-North Syracuse in the quarterfinals of the Class AA tournament.
Sydney O’Hara scored the win for C-NS while allowing one hit and striking out 18, as Jenna Tartaro hit a home run and tallied three RBIs to lead the offense, and Casey Franklin doubled and drove in two runs.
C-NS will meet fourth-seeded Oswego in the semifinals on Wednesday at Hopkins Road Park in Liverpool at 5 p.m.
Mary Resnach got RFA’s lone hit leading off the fifth inning but was stranded at second base with the score still tied at 0-0. In the bottom of the fifth and sixth, C-NS went on to score three runs in each of those two frames.
Senior Halie Schoff received the loss to finish her season at 4-6.
RFA concludes the year with a 8-13 record.
APW shuts out HP
The Holland Patent softball squad suffered a 4-0 shutout defeat from Altmar-Parish-Williamstown in the quarterfinals of the Section III Class B Tournament to finish its season.
Fallon Reinold was the losing pitcher for HP, giving up three runs in the fourth and one tally in the fifth on six hits.
Reinold, who earlier this season had a no-hitter against Whitesboro, also struck out eight to put her record to 14-4 on the hill. The Lady Golden Knights wound up 15-4 overall.
Victoria Stanton was the winning hurler while striking out 13.
APW will face South Jefferson on Wednesday at Hopkins Road Park at 7:30 p.m. in the semifinals.
