The Section III baseball playoff seedings were announced on Sunday, with Rome Free Academy assigned the No. 7 spot and a first-round home game against longtime rival Proctor High of Utica.

The Black Knights will face 10th-seeded Proctor in a Class AA opening rounder at 4:30 p.m. at DeLutis Field.

RFA brings an 11-9 record into the game, while the Raiders are 7-10. It will be the second contest between the two squads. RFA came up with the upper hand in the last game with a 2-1, nine-inning win at home as senior pitcher Steven Eychner threw for a complete game and freshman Joey Izzo drew a bases-loaded walkoff walk.

The winner will move on to the quarterfinals and visit No. 2 seed Liverpool (14-6) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

The Class AA finals will be held on Wednesday, May 30 at Alliance Bank Stadium in Syracuse at 7 p.m.

Oriskany (13-5) also received a first-round home game in the Class D bracket after drawing the No. 6 seed and will host No. 11 Cincinnatus (5-8) on Tuesday at 4:30. The winner will visit third-seeded Sackets Harbor in the quarterfinals on Thursday at a time yet to be determined.

The Class D finals will be on Tuesday, May 29 at Alliance Bank Stadium at 4:30.

Vernon-Verona-Sherrill claimed the fifth seed in the Class B-1 bracket for a quarterfinal match at No. 4 South Jefferson on Thursday at 4 p.m. The Red Devils are 13-5 this season and the hosts are 11-8. Even if the Red Devils had been seeded higher than South Jefferson they cannot host any sectional games due to Section III sanctions imposed after the school’s late defection from the Tri-Valley League at the start of the school year.

In the Class B-2 bracket, Adirondack picked up the seventh seed and will visit No. 2 seed Sherburne-Earlville (10-5) in the quarterfinals on Thursday at a time still to be determined.

The Class B-1 and B-2 finals will be held at DeLutis Field on Monday, May 28 at 4 and 7 p.m., respectively with the overall Class B final taking place on Friday, June 1 with a site and time to be announced.

The South Lewis Falcons and the Westmoreland Bulldogs will take part in the Class C-1 bracket with Westmoreland (9-11) kicking off in the lone first round match as the No. 9 seed at No. 8 Little Falls (13-5) at 7 p.m. The winner will visit No. 1 seed Sauquoit Valley on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

The Falcons drew a first- round bye as the No. 2 seed with a 16-2 record and will host seventh-seeded Thousand Islands (9-8) on Thursday with a time to be determined.

The Class C-1 and C-2 finals will take place on May 28 at DeLutis Field at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively with the overall Class C final taking place on June 1 with the site and time still to be scheduled.
