Aqua Vita tours Saturday

SHERRILL — Local residents can celebrate New York Heritage Week by joining the Landmarks Society of Greater Utica for a trip to tour Aqua Vita Farms, an indoor aquaponic produce and seafood farm, in the 100-year-old former Oneida Ltd. building, 104 E. Seneca St.

The tour will start at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday.

Meet at the site. There will be signs at the entrance to direct those attending to the building.

Cost for the tour is $5 per person, payable at the door to Aqua Vita Farms. No reservations are required.

Aqua Vita is a new organic farming facility that grows produce indoors using aquaponics in combination with fish farming. It is located in one of the former Oneida Silver industrial structures, reused to accommodate indoor agriculture.

After the tour, there will be an optional lunch at nearby Ebenezer’s Café and Creamery, 624 Seneca Road, which features produce and fish from Aqua Vita Farms. After lunch, there will be an optional visit the nearby Oneida Ltd. factory store.

Heritage Weekend will showcase the Empire State to residents and visitors alike and will help kick off the summer tourism season. For a listing of events, visit www.HeritageWeekend.org.
