$700,000 federal grant goes to Fish Creek Cabin Resort
TABERG — The new Fish Creek Cabin Resort facility has received $700,000 in federal funding to buy cabins and equipment, and for working capital, announced U.S. Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-NY.
The guaranteed loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will be used to purchase 14 cabins, plus rental equipment such as canoes and kayaks for the Taberg site, said Schumer.
A groundbreaking was held last fall for Fish Creek Cabin Resort, with founders including Tim Schoen and his brother Michael. The project has involved transforming the Creek Side Trailer Park site into a four-season recreational resort along the East branch of Fish Creek. Lodging is to be geared for kayaking, nature and winter sports enthusiasts; the facility plans to grow its business beyond kayaking and canoeing to benefit skiers, fishers, and hikers as well, according to Schumer’s announcement.
"Fish Creek is one of New York’s most beautiful getaways for year-round adventure. From kayaking and fishing to snowmobiling and skiing, it’s an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise," said Schumer.
Fish Creek is highly rated by various whitewater enthusiast web sites, and is said to be for experienced kayakers during its peak water levels of about six feet, said the announcement.
