Surace scores hole-in-one

Marc Surace aced the No. 15 hole on Tuesday morning for a hole-in-one at the Teugega Country Club golf course.

The shot was witnesses by Scott Hall, Peter Mastracco and Dan Carpenter.

Clinton Comets to be honored

The 1967-68 Clinton Comets, owners of the best record in the history of professional hockey, will be honored Saturday, June 2 by the Utica Professional Hockey Alumni Association following the conclusion UPHAA charity golf tournament at the Barker Brook Golf Course in Oriskany Falls.

The Comets, which compiled a 57-5-10 regular season record and went on to win the first of three consecutive Walker Cups as champions of the Eastern Hockey League, will receive championship rings from the UPHAA during a ceremony to be held at approximately 3 p.m.

The team will be represented by player-coach Pat Kelly, captain Jack Kane and more than a dozen other players including, Bill Bannerman, Borden Smith, Howie Dietrich, Dave Armstrong, Pete Prevost, Ian Anderson, Ed Babiuk, Rod Zane, and Pat Draper. There will also be representatives for deceased members Don Davidson, Bill Hein, and Len Speck.

Regatta scheduled for June on Oneida Lake

Sailors and spectators alike will head to Oneida Lake from June 23-24 for a J-24 Class District 7 Pennant Series Regatta.

The two-day, five-race event will set sail from Callahan’s and Oneida Lake Marinas on the southeast corner of the lake off New York State Route 31. Racing on the eastern end of Oneida Lake will be visible from North and South Bay as well as the Verona and Sylvan Beach areas.

Action will commence both Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. with registration, check-in and skipper’s meetings beforehand. Weekend festivities will also include a Friday happy hour, a Saturday dinner, and a complimentary awards picnic on Sunday.

The courses to be sailed will be windward-leeward (upwind-downwind) and will utilize orange and yellow inflatable buoys. The number of legs will be determined at race time based on wind speed, with each race approximately one hour. Courses may have a downwind or upwind finish and will utilize a gate as the leeward turning point.

A hoist will be available at Callahan’s Marina for launching sailboats, with temporary dockage also part of the facilities, beginning on Friday, June 22, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Space for camping is also present at Callahan’s and Oneida Lake Marinas.
