Sheriff’s Office investigates abandoned farmhouse fire
WESTMORELAND — A fire at an old, abandoned farm house Sunday night is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
Fire Chief Brad White said a passerby reported flames at 10:06 p.m. at the back of the one-story residence at 5076 Tudman Road. Crews from Westmoreland and Stanwix Heights fire departments responded to the scene, which is located between Skinner Road and Cooper Street.
"The back of the house was heavily involved with fire," White said. "It got up into the roof."
The volunteers launched an exterior attack and knocked down the flames in about 15 minutes, White said. No one was injured.
The chief said the residence has been abandoned for about 10 years. "It wasn’t in good shape at all," he said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, White stated. He did not know how owns the property.
