Vernon Downs pacer blazes to 1:50 mile

VERNON — Former New York Sires Stakes standout He’s Gorgeous raced to a 1:50 mile to set a record for older pacing horses during Saturday night’s racing program at Vernon Downs.

Competing in the $6,200 sixth race, He’s Gorgeous led throughout before recording a decisive decision and equaling the career-best speed mark he set at Vernon last season.

It was the first win in six current appearances and the 23rd lifetime victory for He’s Gorgeous, who clipped two-fifths of a second off the previous mark set by Pacinello last July 23. Jack Rice drove for leading trainer Tracy Brainard and owner Kenneth Jacobs.

Racing resumes at the Downs on Thursday at 6:55 p.m.
