Whitesboro whallops Knights

The Rome Free Academy baseball team’s two-game win streak was halted on Saturday when the Black Knights were handed a 14-5 loss by host Whitesboro in a non-league matchup.

The Black Knights got on the scoreboard by scoring four runs in the top of the first before the Warriors responded with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame, then taking a 6-4 advantage in the second and never looking back from there.

Steven Eychner and Robbie Waller both doubled, as Garrett Reilley, Jeff Cooke, Josh Mazzaferro and Connor Miller all drove in one run apiece. Cooke finished with two hits, as well.

Josh Luczak took the loss on the hill, while Whitesboro was led by Mike Bunal with two hits, including a home run, three RBI and three runs scored.

RFA’s record drops to 8-8 overall.

Liddy leads Oriskany

Oriskany collected its seventh league win by routing host Old Forge, 25-1, in a Center State Conference Division IV contest.

Alex Liddy led the Oriskany bats with four hits, as Austin Smith and Dan Buehler added three hits apiece. Trevor O’Bryan had three RBIs, while Buehler, Cody Murphy, Connor Foose drove in two runs apiece.

Chaz Koss earned his first varsity win after pitching six innings while scattering four hits, one run and striking out four.

Oriskany is 7-1 in the league and 13-3 overall. The Redskins will visit New York Mills today for a doubleheader at DeLutis Field scheduled to start at 4:30.

Redwings fall to Little Falls

Rome Catholic suffered its 10th loss of the season in a 14-1 setback against Little Falls at DeLutis Field in a CSC crossover game.

Josh Blair drove in the Redwings’ only run of the game as Mark Lagasse took the loss on the mound.

Zach McLaughlin was the winner for Little Falls, as Mike Izzo recorded two RBIs at the plate.

Rome Catholic drops to 5-10 overall.
