Celebrating the journey
"Celebrate the Journey" is the theme of this year’s National Nursing Home Week, which began yesterday on Mother’s Day and continues through Saturday.
The day recognizes our friends and loved ones who live in long-term settings to enjoy life to the maximum and those dedicated employees and staff members who care for them.
Richard J. Herrick, who is president and CEO of the NYS Health Facilities Association, said "Celebrate the Journey" is "a perfect backdrop for a visit to loved ones, friends, and neighbors as they continue to write new chapters in the journals of their journey."
Herrick noted that many facilities across the state will be hosting events, but even if people can’t visit, they can try to make a phone call, send a greeting card or even dispatch an e-mail to a resident just to make someone’s day. There are about 270 licensed skilled nursing and assisted living facilities who are members of the Health Facilities Association and the State Center for Assisted Living.
National Nursing Home Week is about living life to the fullest, irrespective of age, infirmity or disability, according to the American Health Care Association.
