Roman named Utica College salutatorian


Meredith Merchant of Rome has been named salutatorian of the Utica College Class of 2012, a narrow second to New York Mills native Raymond Fryc who was named valedictorian.

Fryc will speak at the Utica College commencement ceremony Sunday at Utica Memorial Auditorium.

Merchant, completing her bachelor’s degree in health studies, currently maintains a 3.98 grade-point average.

Fryc, completing his bachelor’s degree in mathematics, currently maintains a 3.99 grade-point average with a math major average of 4.00.

Merchant will continue in the doctorate of physical therapy program at UC, and hopes to pursue a career in pediatric physical therapy.

Fryc will attend Binghamton University in the mathematics doctoral program, and hopes to pursue a teaching career as a professor.
