Mary C. (DeMone) Doherty Tuesday, May 8, 2012

Mary C. (DeMone) Doherty, 83, of Rome, NY, formerly of Billerica, MA, Woburn, MA, and Burlington, MA, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center in New Hartford, NY, with her loving family at her side. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Paul (Cheepie) Doherty. They were married in 1950 and together raised their four children. Mary came to live here in Central NY in June of 2010.

She grew up in Burlington, MA, the daughter of the late Maurice and Laura Stewart DeMone. She was also predeceased by her four siblings, Muriel (DeMone) Musgrave, Earl DeMone, Melvin (Pat) DeMone, and Norman DeMone.

Mary graduated from Burlington High School, Class of 1947. She was a gifted athlete and excelled in basketball. Mary and her siblings often reminisced about many happy family times spent singing, playing musical instruments, and dancing.

Mary attended St. Peter’s Church in Rome, NY. She retired from Itek in Bedford, MA, where she worked for many years as an executive secretary and later went on to work for the IRS in Methuen.

Mary is survived by her four children, Paul Doherty, of Salem, MA; Barry Doherty, of N. Andover, MA; Catherine (Doherty) Preble and her husband, Stephen, of Rome, NY; and Lynne (Doherty) Farrah and her husband, John, of Debary, FL; grandchildren, Shaun and Amy Preble, of Syracuse, NY; Brian and Brenda Preble, of Anchorage, AK; Kathleen and David Saville, of Oneida, NY; Stephen (Ebs) Preble, of Rome, NY; Jami Farrah and Rebecca Farrah, of Debary, FL; great-grandchildren, Emma and Logan Saville (children to Kate and David), and Luna and Lilyahnah Preble (children to Brian and Brenda); and several special nieces and nephews.

Mary most enjoyed her time spent with her family and was always ready for a trip to visit them. Most summers, we were able to vacation all together at Hampton Beach, and these memories will be cherished for years to come. Mary loved the Boston Red Sox and followed their games with enthusiasm. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a very giving nature. She was adored by her family and will be so sadly missed.

Mary’s family would like to thank Dr. Amy Gorczynski for her support and care during this very difficult time. She went above and beyond and we will always be grateful.

Mary will return to Massachusetts to be buried with her husband, Paul, in the family plot at Woodbrook Cemetery, in Woborn, MA, at the convenience of the family.

Contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to a charity of your choice.
