HP softball pitcher serves up pair of wins

Holland Patent starting pitcher Fallon Reinold pitched a pair of victories during a doubleheader over Proctor High of Utica on Thursday at Holland Patent High School.

The Lady Golden Knights scored 3-2 and 2-0 wins over Proctor to improve to 7-2 in the Tri-Valley League and 10-3 overall this season.

Reinold, 10-3 on the mound, allowed two hits and struck out 10 batters in game one, and then followed that up with a one-hit shutout with four strikeouts in the second game, which ended after five innings of work.

Brittany Lenaghen and Rebecca Piper had RBIs in the first game, as Korey Bunal led off the seventh inning with a single, moved to second on a Piper sacrifice fly ball and then scored the game-winning run off a Lenaghen RBI double to grab the triumph.

In the second game, Bunal and Piper each had RBIs in the fourth inning to secure the victory.

Westmoreland falls at home

The Westmoreland softball team suffered a 12-3 defeat against visiting Center State Conference foe Morrisville-Eaton.

Lauren Kellom picked up the win on the hill for Morrisville, 5-8 overall.

Westmoreland, which dropped to 1-13 overall, had Callie Cushman suffer the loss on the mound.

RFA drops to Syracuse West

The Rome Free Academy girls lacrosse team dropped a 16-10 decision to hosting Syracuse West during a match held at Henninger High School.

Meghan McCormick recorded five goals, while Alexa Sanzone tallied two goals and an assist, Brooke Miller added two goals, Haleigh Cavalier scored a goal, and Marisa Castro finished with three assists for the Romans.

Rebecca Kieffer finished with 16 saves in between the pipes for the guests.

Rome claims 11th win

The RFA girls golf team raised its win total to 11 following a 184-255 triumph over Liverpool in a non-league match at Rome Country Club.

Lillith Bulawa shot a 43 on the par 35 trek to pace the Lady Knights, while MaryAnn Bulawa recorded a 44. Taylor Laughinghouse put in a 48 and Nicolette Darois chipped in a 49.

Ally Stevens shot a 62 to lead 0-6 overall Liverpool.

HP loses to Notre Dame

In other girls golf action, New Hartford finished with a Tri-Valley League win over an incomplete Holland Patent squad after tallying a 226 team score at Camroden Golf Club.

Martha Redmond shot a 57 for the host Holland Patent Lady Golden Knights, while New Hartford was led by Marisa Mauro with a 53.

Holland Patent falls to 2-7 overall and 2-6 in the league.

VVS falls to rival

The Vernon-Verona-Sherrill boys golf squad dropped to a 223-244 defeat from their crosstown rival Oneida at Oneida Community Golf Club.

Tim Hartley shot a 46 for the Red Devils, as Jon Fewer put in a 47 and Scott Johnson knocked in a 48.

Oneida’s Ben Kallet was the contest’s medalist after tallying a 38, and Will Owens added a 42.

VVS’ mark goes to 3-8 and Oneida stands at 5-6.
