Theft of purse earns three months in jail

Taking his girlfriend’s purse during an argument has cost a 21-year-old man three months in jail.

Jordani Cruz, of 216 E. Thomas St., was sentenced by City Court Judge Daniel C. Wilson Monday to 90 days in jail and was ordered to pay $250 in court fees on a charge of petty larceny, reduced from second-degree robbery.

Police said at 7:37 p.m. May 4, Cruz stole his girlfriend’s purse during an argument at Kekis Citgo on West Dominick Street. The woman suffered cuts to her arm during the theft.

In a statement to police, Cruz said he took his girlfriend’s purse because he thought she had his cell phone. Cruz said he took the purse home with him.

¿ Michael, 40, and Roxanne T. Champion, 40, both of 5525 Belcher Road, Lee Center, was each released Tuesday on their own recognizance on a charge of second-degree aggravated harassment. Their cases were adjourned to May 23.

Police said at 9:15 p.m. March 24, the Champions telephoned a woman in Rome and threatened her son. In a statement to police, the victim said her son has a child in common with the Champions’ daughter.

¿ Shawna L. Mitchell, 29, of 116 Canal St., was released on her own recognizance on a charge of petty larceny. Her case was adjourned to May 16.

Police said at 4:30 p.m. April 6, Mitchell stole $127 worth of clothing from JCPenney on Erie Boulevard West. Store security said Mitchell hid the items on herself and in her baby stroller.

¿ John J. Belius, 47, of 9144 Route 26, Lee Center, was released on his own recognizance on charges of driving while intoxicated, driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or greater and failure to keep right. His case was adjourned to May 11.

Police said at 2:04 p.m. April 28, Belius registered a blood alcohol content of 0.13 percent on Erie Boulevard West.

¿ David M. Zmudosky, 49, of 207 W. Garden St., was released on his own recognizance on charges of driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI and running a stop sign. His case was adjourned to May 11.

Police said at 2:23 a.m. April 21, Zmudosky registered a blood alcohol content of 0.20 percent — more than twice the legal threshold of 0.08 percent — on North George Street.

¿ Joshua E. Martin, 26, of 9691 Sulphur Springs Road, Lee Center, was released on his own recognizance on a charge of unlawful possession of marijuana. His case was adjourned to May 11.

Deputies said at 10:16 p.m. April 23, Martin was found with a plastic container of marijuana on West Liberty Street.
