Utica Zoo Mother’s Day is Donovan the Lion Cub Day

The Utica Zoo is inviting area residents to come celebrate Mother’s Day and Donovan the African lion cub’s first birthday this weekend.

Visitors will get to sign Donovan’s birthday banner on Saturday. Docents will also be available to answer everyone’s African lion questions throughout the day. Donovan will be given a special birthday surprise to play with. Admission includes all educational and recreational attractions. Food is an additional cost.

The Utica Zoo is also home to several mothers from the African lions to the African Crested Porcupines who just welcomed two babies on exhibit in the Animal Care Center. Future mothers of the zoo include the swans who are now sitting on their eggs. On Sunday, the zoo will celebrate Mothers’ Day with free admission for mothers, courtesy of Gates-Cole Insurance. Also on Sunday, there will be an alligator feeding, and the new Serval will be on exhibit for the first time, weather permitting.
