Oriskany bolsters baseball title hopes by beating Wings
The Oriskany baseball team moved to 4-1 in Center State Conference Division IV on Monday with a 9-4 win over Rome Catholic at DeLutis Field.
Anthony Pickard pitched six strong innings as Nate Keating clubbed out four RBIs to lead the Redskins’ bats.
Pat Manna also drove in two runs, as Noah Lupini went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, Austin Smith finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Sam Martel also went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the guests, who improved to 10-3 overall.
Pickard struck out 10, walked three, and garnered six hits and three runs during the win on the mound.
Mark Lagasse suffered the loss on the mound for the Redwings, which dropped to 2-6 in league play and 4-9 overall this season.
Josh Blair finished with a team-high three RBIs and Lagasse also drove in a run for the Romans.
Oriskany swept the home-and-home series as the Redskins won, 15-6, in Oriskany earlier this season.
Oneida downs HP
The Holland Patent team couldn’t shake their losing streak against visiting Tri-Valley League foe Oneida as the Golden Knights dropped a 14-3 home decision in their sixth loss in a row.
HP sophomore Hal Reigi, 1-1, took the loss on the mound but went a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish, while Wayne Schultz and Brandon Marsh both drove in RBIs for HP, which fell to 1-4 in the league and 4-7 overall.
Oneida, 2-4 in the TVL and 4-7 overall, was paced offensively by Drew Mallinder and Mitch Cavanagh, who each finished with three RBIs.
