State Police seek fugitive who fled scene
A 22-year-old Utica man who fled the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Route 12 is wanted by state and federal authorities.
If you know the whereabouts of Henry W. Lumpkin you are asked to call the state police at 366-6000 or the U.S. Marshals Service at 690-1834. All calls will be kept confidential.
Marcy-based state police said Lumpkin was northbound on Route 12 at 8:13 p.m. April 26 when he was pulled over for speeding in a 2009 Toyota Corolla. While the trooper was walking up to Lumpkin’s window, however, authorities said he hit the gas and sped away.
The trooper chased Lumpkin for about a mile and a half along Route 12 until Lumpkin’s vehicle overturned and crashed into a ditch near French Road.
Lumpkin crawled out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. Authorities said he left behind two passengers, both of whom were hospitalized for their injures.
Lumpkin remains on the loose. He is wanted for reckless endangerment, assault and fleeing police. He is also a parolee who was convicted of cocaine possession in May 2011.
Lumpkin is described as a black male with black hair and brown eyes, according to state police. He is about 5-foot, 10-inches tall and 160 pounds. He has a tattoo of a star on his neck and a cross on his left forearm.
