Bees rally past Black Knights
The Rome Free Academy baseball team grabbed a four-run lead after three innings but was unable to hold on against Central New York Counties League foe Baldwinsville in a 6-5 defeat on Thursday.
In the second inning, the Black Knights scored on a RBI single by Steven Eychner and on a double steal with both Eychner and Tom Amuso scoring, then Dylan Thomas blasted a two-run double in the fourth to put Rome up by four.
The Bees responded in the bottom of the frame with five runs, all with two outs, to take the lead before the Black Knights tied the score in the fifth on a hit by Garrett Reilley and a RBI double by Robbie Waller. Josh Demoski belted a one-run single in the bottom of the sixth to give RFA it’s seventh loss of the year.
Scott Blewett claimed the win for 9-4 overall Baldwinsville. Ryan Reilley took the loss in relief.
VVS edges New Hartford
Vernon-Verona-Sherrill scored all of its runs in the sixth inning in a 4-1 win over host New Hartford and improve to 9-4 overall.
Collin Laguzza led the Red Devils both at the plate and on the mound by batting 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI while picking up the win on the mound after five innings and giving up just two hits and no runs.
Westmoreland squeaks by
Westmoreland captured its fifth win with a 2-1 decision over host Poland in a Center State Conference crossover matchup.
Westmoreland hurler Zack Green outpitched Poland’s Zak Cavoly to claim the win.
Green also had two hits and an RBI, and Ryan Hogane added the game-winning RBI in the fifth.
Westmoreland, 5-8 overall, will host Morrisville-Eaton on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
