Another player of year honor for Brognano
Seven SUNYIT softball players were selected to the North Eastern Athletic Conference North Division All-Conference Team on Wednesday, with junior shortstop and Rome Free Academy graduate Lyndsey Brognano taking home co-player of the year honors with outfielder Elly Disbrow from Keuka College.
Brognano, who previously took home the NEAC women’s basketball player of the year, added another honor to her trophy case this spring by registering in the top 5 in a number of conference offensive categories including, hits, home runs, and runs scored while playing solid defense as the Lady Wildcat’s shortstop.
The SUNYIT women’s basketball and softball teams are coached by Camden graduate Jessica Skelton.
Brognano led the conference in doubles (18) and total bases (77) while being second in slugging percentage (.694), third in both home runs (5) and runs scored (41), and fifth in both hits (44) and RBIs (31).
Her 12 doubles and .864 slugging percentage during conference play were also league bests. Brognano made multiple plays from the shortstop position as well, recording 73 putouts and 46 assists en route to a .944 fielding percentage.
