Melioris picks up his second minor league win of season

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Rome native Joe Melioris picked up his second pitching win of the season on Tuesday for the Class A minor league baseball team the Cedar Rapids Kernels during an 8-0 victory over West Michigan.

The 6-foot-11, 270-pound right-handed hurler Melioris pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief and allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two batters to grab the victory on the mound.

The Kernels are a minor league affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.

This spring with the Class A minor league baseball team, Melioris sports a 2-0 record with a 1.08 ERA in seven games.

In 16 2/3 innings, he has issued just five walks, allowed 10 hits, two earned runs, one home run, and has fanned 12 batters. Melioris also has held batters to a .172 batting average.

The Kernels are 12-14 overall this season.
