Oneida County Bar hosts students at Court House Law Day ceremony
The annual Law Day event hosted by the Oneida County Bar Association will kick off Tuesday morning, and will include two guest speakers and an open forum involving local attorneys and judges.
Local high school students will gather at the Ceremonial Courtroom at the County Courthouse at 8:45 a.m. to begin the day’s events. An educational program will introduce the students to the law, with a focus on this year’s theme: "Civil Rights in the Courts: Past and Future." The presentation will include a panel discussion with local attorneys and judges.
Representatives from the Syracuse University College of Law and Herkimer County Community College will inform students about their law programs.
Lunch will be at the Radisson Hotel, with guest speaker attorney Hugh C. Humphreys.
Also during the luncheon, the Hugh R. Jones Award will be presented, and the 2012 Oneida/Herkimer/Madison County High School Mock Trial champion will be recognized.
Devery S. Anderson, of Utah, will speak at the Utica Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on the Emmett Louis Till murder case from the 1950s.
