Signup under way for May aquatics training at MVCC

Mohawk Valley Community College’s Center for Corporate and Community Education will offer a number of aquatics training classes in May and June.

They are:

¿ Backyard Water Safety: Get the knowledge and skills necessary to help prevent, recognize and respond to several types of aquatic emergencies by protecting yourself and others. Thursday, May 24, from 5-9 p.m. Cost is $39.

¿ CPR/AED for the Lifeguard Professional Rescuer: This course helps participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac and breathing emergencies. Choose from Saturday, May 19, 1-6 p.m.; or Thursday, June 21, from 1-6 p.m. Cost is $49.

¿ Lifeguard Instructor Training: Learn how to conduct and teach the American Red Cross Lifeguard program. Saturday and Sunday, May 19 through June 10, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost is $279.

¿ Lifeguard Training: Get the skills and knowledge needed to become a lifeguard. Students will learn to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to aquatic emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 1-10; Friday, 5-9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost is $239.

¿ Lifeguard Training Review (Recertification): Students will renew their lifeguard certification, CPR/AED for the Lifeguard, and First Aid by successful completion of the course. Choose from Saturday and Sunday, May 19-20, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or Thursday and Friday, June 21-22, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost is $149.

¿ Water Safety Instructor Training: Get the skills and knowledge needed to become a water safety instructor. Students will learn how to teach water safety, learn-to-swim courses and the six basic swimming strokes. Saturday and Sunday, May 19 through June 10, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $279.

¿ Lifeguard Management: The class is designed to teach aquatic managers and lifeguard supervisors how to effectively manage lifeguards and help to keep patrons, lifeguards and aquatic facilities safe. This course meets the state Health Department requirement for aquatic camp supervisors. Monday and Wednesday, June 18-20, 5:30-9 p.m. Cost is $59.
