John C. "Jack" Griffith
John C. "Jack" Griffith, 81, of Westernville, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2012. He was born on February 16, 1931, the son of Lynn and Luella Hartwell Griffith in Rome. Jack was a graduate of Holland Patent High School. In 1952 he joined the United States Navy and served on the "Mighty Mo," U.S. Missouri, during the Korean War. In his earlier years he worked at several area mills until he started his own business doing wedding photography. In the early 1960s he was married to Marie Worlock until her passing in 2006.
Jack enjoyed the outdoors and showing horses. He loved to hunt and fish in the Adirondacks, was an Adirondack guide and spent many days kayaking in the lakes and rivers of the North Country. Jack also had a passion for showing horses, especially his favorite, "Susie Q." Living on Carmichael Hill allowed him the pleasure of seeing all the wild animals on his property.
Surviving are his daughter, Lydia Fey of Rome; son John P. and Lucille Griffith of Denver, CO; stepson, Paul Stanton of Rome and grandson Raymond. Also surviving are several in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Lola Barnwell.
Services will be private. Family and friends may call on Monday from 4-6 p.m. at the Strong and Burns Funeral Home, 401 N. George St., Rome. Burial will be in Carmichael Hill Cemetery.
