Cheerleaders to perform during NFL games
The North Star Competitive All-Star Cheer Teams have nominated six members who have qualified to participate in the 2012 National Football League halftime time in Detroit, Mich. and the 2013 Pro Bowl.
The girls who are expected to make the trips are Rome natives Carmann Bendetto, Allyson Falcone and Madelyn Carambia along with Lyndsee Pachara of Holland Patent, Tessah Emerson of Oneida and Utica’s Kayli Rhinehardt.
The Junior and Senior team won a bid on April 21 in Pittsburgh as well to compete at the U.S, Finals being held in Rhode Island on May 5. The teams must place in their division in order to win the bid.
North Star will also have teams performing for their Health and Fitness night at Staley Upper Elementary School on May 7 and at Rome Free Academy’s main gymnasium on May 22 at 6:30 p.m.
The program will hold tryouts and sign-ups on May 29-20 at the North Star Gymnasium for its upcoming season. Age groups include 5-and-under, 8-and-under, 14-and-under, 18 and under and 17-and-older for the open cheer squad. Senior and Junior teams must try out to make the team, while all other squads are sign-up only. The program’s summer schedule begins on June 1. All teams will compete in and outside of the state. Hours for the gym are Monday through Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 2 p.m.

Boat launching ramp opens May 1
The New York Power Authority has announced that its recreational boat-launching ramp at the Hinkley Dam and Reservoir will be open for the season on Tuesday.
Directional and warning buoys by the power dam spillway have already been installed.
The launch will be open daily during the boating season, and consists of concrete planks extending 200 feet into the reservoir to permit easy access for boaters.
Lacrosse and T-ball signups scheduled
VERONA — The Oneida Indian Nation Recreation Department will host lacrosse and T-ball signups for boys and girls for a free instructional program running from May to June that is open to the public.
A coed lacrosse program for players age 6 to 10 is set for Tuesdays from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. May 1 to June 5. The second lacrosse instructional program is for boys in grades 9 through 11. It runs 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays May 3 through June 7.
The coed T-ball program is for participants between the ages of 6-10 runs on Tuesdays from 6-6:30 p.m. on May 1 to June 5 at the Oneida Nation softball field on Territory Road. Players must bring their own glove. All other equipment will be provided.
