Senior nutrition menu
The nutrition program for persons age 60 and over is funded by the county Office for the Aging, state and federal grants, and contributions from participants. Meals are served Monday through Friday at the Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens Civic Center and the South Rome Senior Citizens Center, both in Rome; United Methodist Church, Vernon; United Methodist Church, Boonville, Noyes Manor Apartments, Sherrill; and Town Hall in Forestport.
It is essential to the success of the program that those who can afford to contribute do so. However, no one can be turned away because they do not contribute. Reservations must be made at least one day in advance.
Each diner receives an envelope into which a suggested voluntary contribution may be placed to pay for the meal. A donation of $2.25 is suggested. Those under age 60 must pay $6.40.
The menu for the week of April 30-May 4:
Monday — Hot dog, German potato salad, confetti corn, hot dog roll, and make your own sundae.
Tuesday — Meatloaf with gravy, scalloped potatoes, harvard beets, whole wheat bread, and apricots.
Wednesday — Italian Sausage with Peppers and Onions, Seasoned Pasta, Italian Blend Vegetables, Italian Bread, and Cinnamon Pears.
Thursday — Tuna salad cold plate, cottage cheese, 1/2 hard boiled egg, pickled beet salad, rye bread, and chocolate pudding.
Friday — Bar-B-Que chicken leg, spring new potatoes, succotash, whole wheat roll, and a pineapple and mandarin orange cup.
Diet substitutes are available with some meals, upon request. The menu is subject to change by the OFA.
