A Utica man accused of leading law enforcers on a high speed chase and then fleeing on foot when his car crashed Thursday night is the subject of a manhunt this morning.
If you know the whereabouts of 22-year-old Henry W. Lumpkin, you are asked to call the state police at 366-6000. All calls will be kept confidential.
Marcy-based state police said Lumpkin was northbound on Route 12 at 8:13 p.m. when he was pulled over for speeding in a 2009 Toyota Corolla. While the trooper was walking up to Lumpkin’s window, however, authorities said he hit the gas and sped away.
The trooper gave chase for about a mile and a half on Route 12, authorities said. Lumpkin passed two other northbound vehicles while he was fleeing the trooper, then eventually lost control near French Road and went off the east shoulder.
Troopers said the car overturned into a ditch, but Lumpkin was able to free himself and flee the scene. He left behind two passengers.
Tyre L. Pulliam, 22, of Utica, had been partially ejected in the crash and suffered a bruised lung, troopers said. He is in fair condition this morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, hospital officials stated. Christa M. Stewart, 20, of Utica, was treated and released from the hospital for back pain and small cuts to her hands and legs, authorities said.
Lumpkin remains on the loose this morning, investigators said.
Lumpkin is described as a black male with black hair and brown eyes, according to state police. He is about 5-foot, 8-inches tall and 140 pounds.
